Primary Scripture: Luke 2:1-7; 8-20; John 1:9-13
Primary Topic: Jesus’ birth was humble. It did not come with the celebration and pomp most kings
would require. His birth was known to a mute priest, shepherds, and a few other lowly people. It was
kept from King Herod, who desperately opposed it. This is a stark reminder that Jesus came for the sinners
rather than the righteous. It is those who know their condition and need for renewal – tax collectors and
prostitutes – who are entering God’s kingdom ahead to the spiritually pride.
Prompting Questions: What is humility before God? What makes humility so challenging to move
towards? Why is humility required for salvation in Christ? How does someone who recognizes that they are
prideful move towards humility?
